It is evident that Telangana is going to suffer due to shortage of Power after the state division. The crisis only became bigger with Andhra Pradesh government refusing to share the power according to the bifurcation bill. But now more trouble is looming large on Telangana. The environment ministry has urged Telangana government to shut down the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (KTPS) in phases by 2018.

The project which generates more than 800 MW a day has been operating from early 1970s. The project is one of the prime sources of electricity generation in Telangana. The project has already crossed its operational lifetime of 25 years but is being extended. But Environment Ministry had clarified that it should be shut down by 2018 at any cost citing environmental issues. So, Telangana government has to arrange an alternative by then.
