As the results of the National Family Health Survey 2015-16 came out, it appears that in Telangana the quality of healthcare has gone down in the past year and the state has been rated poorly on many counts.

One of the categories where the state has been rated poorly is maternity where Telangana is the state with highest number of Caesarian section deliveries in 74.9% cases they handled, followed closely by West Bengal with 74.7%. Andhra Pradesh on the other hand only handled 60.9% cases with C-section. As for government hospitals, Telangana recorded C-sections in 40.6% of their cases to Andhra Pradesh’ 25.5%.
This problem is being attributed to the lack of mechanism check its misuse when hospitals resort to Caesarian deliveries when it not mandated. However private practitioners say that the pregnant women and their families themselves insist on a C-section delivery as per the ‘muhurtam’ fixed to time the birth.
