YS Sharmila skipped the by-elections that happened so far in Telangana. But her YSR Telangana Party decided to content in the upcoming Munugodu by-election.
Elections in Telangana are around the corner, there are speculations that KCR may go for early elections. Even if he does not, the elections are supposed to happen next year itself.
If Sharmila still stays away from the elections, people and political parties will not take her seriously. So she decided to contest the election which will be the first for her after floating a new party.
She is planning to give the ticket to the BC candidate to woo the voters of that community while she expects Reddy and SCs will naturally vote for her.
But then, Telangana sentiment is very high in Munugodu. So, it will be doubtful if she will get substantial votes in the election.
If the party fails to get a reasonable number of votes, YSRTP will remain a failure in the assembly elections.
The by-election is necessitated due to the resignation of Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy who switched from Congress to BJP.
Political experts believe that the contest is on only between BJP and TRS in this election
The by-election is almost like a semi-final to the assembly elections.
