It is quite common in Telugu Politics to rename Welfare Schemes after the leaders in power.
In 2019-24, Jagan Mohan Reddy did not confine that to schemes and also insulted the legends.
He renamed NTR Health University, removed Abdul Kalam’s name for a View Point in Rushikonda Beach, and replaced it with his father YSR’s name.
He replaced Ambedkar’s name with his name for the scheme that financially assists students hailing from poor social and economic backgrounds by reimbursing their total fee.
The Chandrababu Naidu Government, however, is very careful when changing the names.
The Chief Minister is rolling back to Old names for the schemes of his 2014-2019 tenure.
Accordingly, Jagananna Videshi Vidya Deevena was changed to Ambedkar Overseas Vidya Nidhi, YSR Kalyana Masthu as Chandranna Pelli Kanuka, and YSR Vidyonnathi as NTR Vidyonnathi.
It is to be noted that the schemes that were introduced in Jagan’s tenure were not named after Chandrababu Naidu but were given Generic Names.
Jagananna Vidya Deevena is named Post Matric Scholarship, Jagananna Vasathi Deevena as Post Matric Scholarships, Jagananna Civil Services Protasahakam as Incentives for Civil Services Exams scheme, DISHA mobile application as ‘WOMEN SAFETY APP’, and Nadu-Nedu website as School Infrastructure Improvement.
That means Chandrababu Naidu will ensure the continuity of these schemes but will not have his name or NTR’s name on them.
Also, the cabinet today rolled back the name of NTR Health University.
