Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a key concern for the middle class and salaried citizens during his Independence Day speech. He called it a double Diwali for the nation, promising relief in the form of GST reforms and tax cuts.
By Diwali, the government will introduce major changes in GST guidelines and reduce taxes. Modi said these steps would lower the prices of essential consumer goods and strengthen the economy, allowing the people of India to breathe easier.
He assured that GST slabs would be revised to make daily products more affordable. The goal, he said, is to make life easier for the average family and encourage spending. A high-power committee will be set up to deliver next-generation GST reforms as a Diwali gift.
Modi recalled that eight years ago, the government had introduced significant GST reforms. After discussions with states, he said it was time to review the existing rules and adjust both GST and tax structures.
The Prime Minister added that the government has already made annual incomes of up to Rs 12 lakh tax-free. With public support, he said, these upcoming reforms will bring lasting economic benefits for the common man.
