Non-Bailable Warrant Issued Against Rahul Gandhi

Non-Bailable Warrant Issued Rahul Gandhi

A MLA-MP Court has issued a non-bailable warrant against Congress leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi. The Court in Chaibasa, Jharkhand, issued the warrant regarding a defamation case linked to comments made against the then BJP president Amit Shah.

The comments were made by Rahul Gandhi during a Congress plenary session in 2018. At the meet, Rahul Gandhi is alleged to have said that the BJP could be electing a president with charges of murder.

Following this, BJP’s Pratap Katiyar filed a case in June, 2018, saying Rahul Gandhi had defamed the party and its members. The Court proceedings have been going on for years, with the case being escalated to MP-MLA Court in Ranchi.

But the case came back to Chaibasa Court and Rahul Gandhi was repeatedly summoned. A bailable warrant was issued, which was disposed of, in 2024. Though Rahul’s team tried to stop personal appearance of Rahul Gandhi, the Chaibasa Court dismissed the plea.

However, Rahul Gandhi did not appear before the Court so far. So, the Court took the extreme step of issuing a non-bailable warrant, demanding Rahul Gandhi’s presence in Court by June 26.

The step shows that judiciary wants to wrap up the matter at the earliest.

As for Rahul Gandhi, he is presently in Poonch, visiting and consoling those affected by Pakistan’s shelling.
