
Th AP High Court took up hearing on Jagan’s request to give him opposition leader status. Jagan had earlier filed a petition in High Court. Subsequently, the HC issued notices to Assembly secretary and Speaker.
YSRCP leader Jagan was being denied the post due to political vengeance, Jagan’s lawyer argued. He said the court must see to it that Jagan is made the opposition leader.

In response, the High Court issued notices to Assembly secretary and Speaker to file a counter in the matter. The court also asked for rule position details to be presented before it. The court fixed the next hearing after three weeks.
When Andhra Pradesh went to polls in 2024, Jagan’s YSRCP secured a meagre 11 seats out of 175 seats. ‘Why not 175?’ was Jagan’s slogan prior to the polls. Probably in the history of Telugu states, this is the first time that a ruling party lost so badly.

Given that Jagan had 11 seats, the Speaker refused to accord him the leader of opposition position. Following this, Jagan approached the court and the hearings are going on.
There are high levels of excitement between TDP and YSRCP regarding the final decision of the court.
