NRIs Rejoice, UPIs Going International Soon

NRI UPIWe all know that NRIs contribute a large chunk when it comes to the e-commerce sector in India, and most websites deliver to many international destinations that have a good number of NRIs.

Now, the government of India is making provisions to make it easy for NRIs and vendors or retailers out here by allowing UPI payments on international numbers.

Sometime very soon, non-resident Indians will be able to transact via the united payments interface or UPI. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has told all members to allow NRIs having non-residential external and non-resident ordinary accounts and carrying international mobile numbers to get onboarded and allow them to do transactions through UPI.

Initially, NRIs from the US, UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, Oman, and Qatar will be able to use the facility. This development is due to the following requests from NRIs residing in these countries. However, it is up to the member banks to ensure that the accounts are allowed as per the FEMA regulations.
