Revanth Reddy Against Freebies

In India Today Conclave, 2025, the Telangana Chief Minister made some startling comments. He said it was not possible to execute the six guarantees he promised prior to the elections.

He said the ones that are being implemented will also be stopped soon. When asked by Rajdeep Sardesai that the Telangana government was having trouble balancing the budget, Revanth Reddy gave a rather straigh-forward reply. Rajdeep Sardesai then asked him about guarantees such as Rs 4000 for unemployed youth, promises to farmers and agricultural workers and other pre-poll guarantees.

The revenues of my state are Rs 18,500 crores per month, said Revanth Reddy. He said he had to pay for salaries and pensions adding upto Rs 6,500 crore. I have to pay debts and interests of Rs 6500 crore. Whether I eat or not, whether I have tea or not, I have to pay Rs 13,000 crore before 10th of every month, rued Reddy. So, I am getting Rs 5500 crore for welfare programmes and schemes, he said. This is the state of Telangana, he revealed.

When Rajdeep stressed on the guarantees based on which the Congress won in Telangana, Revanth Reddy had an answer for that too. He said he was also of the opinion that it was possible to provide developmental schemes before sitting in the CM’s seat.

I thought I will be able to do everything with Rs 3.75 lakh debt and the income that is coming. But I understood the reality after sitting in the seat.

When asked that the freebies or revdi as called in the north was not fiscally possible, Revanth Reddy said there should be a national debate on the matter. Only one person cannot do everything.

Instead of delimitation, instead of one nation, one election, we should sit together, entire country and discuss this, said Revanth Reddy.

I am sorry to say I am not able to spend Rs 500 crore on capital investment. So what’s going to happen to the state and what will happen to the country in future, poured out Revanth Reddy.

After this talk, wonder what the Congress high command and opposition BRS will have to say about it. In fact, Revanth Reddy is flying to Delhi on Saturday night.

It remains to be seen if any disciplinary action will be taken for such ‘open’ talk by a state chief minister.
