Earlier this month, YSR Congress Rajya Sabha MP Vijayasai Reddy called for a Pressmeet in Vishakapatnam to clarify the allegations that surfaced against him and lambasted some media channels.
Towards the end, Vijayasai Reddy announced starting a News Channel very soon.
Since then, there has been no official update about the progress on that issue.
There were rumors that Sai Reddy was in talks with Raj TV to acquire.
If it is true, it is as good as starting a News Channel. BARC released the Television Ratings for Week 29.
In the Age 15+ Category, Raj TV is last in the ratings list with ‘Zero’ ratings. The Channel has been in the same position for many years now.
It is as good as starting a new channel but then, Sai Reddy has no way because it is unlikely he will get a new channel license.
Due to the pending FEMA violation cases, it is not possible for him to get a new Channel license or have an existing license transferred to his name. So he has to have someone reliable to have the Channel on their name.
Raj TV was initially founded by Chennai-based people but quickly ran into debt. The Channel changed many hands since then.
BRS initially took it over and ran for some days until they got the license for T-News. A Reddy leader in the BJP ran it for some time and it was also controlled by Ravi Prakash (former TV9 CEO). Even they exited from it, long ago.
Later, a former top employee of TV5 took it over but struggled once again. The Channel has been out of the radar for a long time and most employees left it over pending dues running into several months. Buzz is that the channel is with a big businessman who owns a convention center in Gachbowli.
