On the occasion, CM Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, and Minister Nara Lokesh extended birthday greetings to Jagan Mohan Reddy. These wishes did not draw much attention, as similar exchanges have happened earlier between rival leaders.
However, YS Sharmila wishing her brother became the main talking point. Her birthday message quickly made headlines, not because of its content but due to the strained relationship between the siblings.
Sharmila posted her wishes on X in Telugu, conveying birthday greetings and praying for his long life and good health. The post was formal and brief, which led to mixed reactions across social media platforms.
Several social media users, especially YSR Congress supporters, felt the message appeared cold. Some criticised her for not addressing Jagan as ‘Annayya’, while others claimed the tone reflected arrogance rather than warmth.
Many critics ignored that Sharmila’s birthday occurred earlier this month. Several leaders including Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, and Lokesh wished her, but Jagan Mohan Reddy did not respond publicly.
Given past events, Jagan Mohan Reddy is unlikely to reply to Sharmila’s message. The siblings have remained at odds for a long time, with tensions becoming visible ahead of the 2024 elections.
Sharmila and YS Sunitha actively campaigned against YSR Congress across the state before the elections. Sharmila also contested from Kadapa Parliament, directly challenging what was considered a YSR Congress stronghold.
In response, Jagan Mohan Reddy denied Sharmila’s share in their father’s properties. He also referred to old gift deeds, stating that his affection for her had diminished.
In such a hostile backdrop, Sharmila publicly wishing Jagan Mohan Reddy stands out. Expecting the message to follow a specific emotional format appears excessive. The overreaction has only amplified the controversy.
