Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sonia Gandhi has once again been admitted to hospital due to chronic cough. She was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where doctors said she is stable and under observation by a chest specialist.
Hospital sources clarified that the admission was routine in nature. They said Sonia Gandhi has a long standing cough issue and regularly comes in for medical check-ups. Pollution in the city has also been cited as a contributing factor.
The veteran Congress leader turned 79 in December 2024. Doctors have reassured that there is no cause for concern regarding her health. Her condition is being closely monitored as a precautionary measure.
Recently, Sonia Gandhi was actively seen at a Congress leaders meeting where she criticised the Modi government. She accused the Centre of weakening MGNREGA and pledged to oppose any move to repeal the rural employment scheme.
She also expressed her views through an op-ed in an English daily a few days later. Sonia Gandhi wrote that weakening the rural employment scheme reflects a collective moral failure with serious long term financial and human consequences.
