South Coast Railway will officially start operations from Vizag from April 1. This will be a major milestone for Andhra Pradesh’s rail infrastructure and connectivity.
The operations are also expected to improve administrative efficiency and regional rail coordination. It will also strengthen Vizag’s position as a key railway hub in South India.
The zone is being carved out the Waltair division from East Coast Railway with a portion merged into the new Rayagada division and the rest being named as Visakhapatnam division.
The headquarters building is being completed in Mudasarlova and is expected to be complete by February, 2027. Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for the headquarters.
The new zone will cover 3496 kilometers. The SCoR is expected to boost industrial growth in the region, given its proximity to Visakhapatnam and Krishnapatnam ports.
The zone fulfills a long-standing dream of not just Uttarandhra people, but Telugu people following the bifurcation of the state.
