Star cricketer Mohammed Shami may enter politics soon. He is expected to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from West Bengal.
Shami represents the Bengal cricket team in domestic cricket. It is heard that the BJP leadership contacted Shami with the proposal of Lok Sabha contention. However, Shami is yet to make his decision.
According to the sources, the BJP is planning to gain the minority vote base in Bengal by contesting Shami. If he joins the party, he may contest from a minority-heavy constituency. Reports say that Shami will most likely contest from Basirhat Lok Sabha constituency.
Shami recently underwent surgery and took a break from cricket. His last assignment was the 2023 ODI World Cup. He was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament. He also opted out of the upcoming IPL due to this injury.
As he took a break from cricket, we can expect Shami to use this summer for his political campaign.
