The Stree Shakti free bus service will start in Andhra Pradesh on August 15, offering free travel for women, girls and trans women. The government has issued detailed guidelines to implement this Super Six promise and make the process clear for passengers.
The scheme covers five categories of buses — Palle Velugu, Ultra Palle Velugu, city ordinary, express and metro express. Passengers must carry valid identity cards to use the service from launch day.
Not all services are included. There will be no free travel on Saptagiri buses to Tirupati, non-stop or inter-state buses, Saptagiri Express, Ultra Deluxe, Super Luxury, Star Liner or AC buses.
To ensure safety and prevent incidents, all buses will be fitted with CCTV cameras, and conductors will wear body-worn cameras. The move follows cases in neighbouring Telangana where passengers misused the free bus scheme.
The government has also instructed officials to improve infrastructure at bus stands to handle the expected rush in the first three months.
