Pithapuram TDP Incharge SVSN Varma gave up his seat for Pawan Kalyan in the 2024 elections. Initially, his supporters were unhappy, but after Chandrababu Naidu personally assured him, Varma agreed and worked hard for Pawan Kalyan’s victory.
During the campaign, Pawan Kalyan and Varma shared excellent camaraderie, with the actor often praising and thanking him for his support. However, the situation changed drastically after the elections.
Varma reportedly faced sidelining in the constituency, with rivals from YSR Congress gaining prominence. Leaders such as MP Uday and Naga Babu allegedly caused him difficulties directly or indirectly. Chandrababu Naidu also did not fulfill his promise of giving Varma an MLC seat.
Rumors suggest that Pawan Kalyan feared Varma’s elevation could create another power centre in Pithapuram, and Chandrababu Naidu allegedly obliged. Reports indicate that Varma feels suffocated and may join YSR Congress in the future.
Varma had not been meeting Chandrababu Naidu; the last time they were seen together was at a wedding in Vijayawada. Recently, however, Varma was spotted with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu during the Swacch Andhra program in Peddapuram, attending the rally and travelling with the CM in his convoy.
TDP cadres are now speculating whether Varma’s political journey will see a positive turn. Pawan Kalyan may make Pithapuram his permanent constituency, but he needs to unite strong leaders like Varma to solidify his base.
If Varma joins YSR Congress, he may never feel fully comfortable in Pithapuram. He is a seasoned leader who previously won as an independent, defeating both TDP and YSR Congress candidates.
