
Telangana caste census data has been released after decades, providing insights into the state’s demographic composition. The last census was conducted in 1931, and the Telangana government has now taken up this humongous task.
The State Planning Department conducted the survey to gauge the social, economic, political, caste and educational status of households across the state.

BCs were the highest percentage at 46.25% with a population of 1,64,09,179. Then came SCs at 17.43% with a population of 61,84,319.
The STs stood at 10.45% with a population of 37,05,929. Muslims contributed for 12.56% and they comprised 44,57,012 individuals. The BC Muslims comprised 10.08% while the OC Muslims contributed the rest.

Other OCs contributed 13.31% with a population of 44,21,115. The total OC population happens to be 15.79%.
96.97% households were surveyed making this the largest after Independence. 3,54,77,554 individuals were surveyed.

94,863 enumerators 9628 supervisors were assigned the job. 76,000 digital operators digitized the data within 36 days.
The Census had to face its share of challenges. About 1.03 houses were found locked. 1.68 families were hesitant to answer at the beginning. 84,137 houses were not being used or had non-Telangana residents.
