A new Rs 54 crore silk scam has been found in Tirumala. The TTD officials have uncovered irregularities in the procurement of silk shawls.
The checks revealed that VRS Exports supplied polyester shawls instead of silk shawls between 2014 and 2025. Shawls worth Rs 54 crore were purchased in this period. The purity tests confirmed that the material was polyester.
The TTD Board has decided to send the case to ACB. TTD chairman BR Naidu said that shawls worth Rs 300 to Rs 400 were sold for Rs 1334. He said the team suspected the cloth quality and ordered an inquiry. The investigation exposed the full scam.
The present TTD Board is trying to ensure that the quality of all products used in the sacred temple is checked. Devotees across the world believe in Lord Venkateswara and expect the sanctity of the temple to be protected. The Chandrababu government is reviewing every detail to restore trust in devotees.
