Today marks the 10th Anniversary of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Bail. Way back in 2013 on September 23rd, Jagan got bail from the CBI court after he was jailed due to disproportionate assets cases that led to eleven CBI, and nine ED inquiries.
After staying in jail for 16 months, Jagan allegedly struck a last-minute deal with the then UPA Government to support if the Government fell short of MP seats. Both Congress and YSR Congress lost the 2014 elections.
Ever since 2014, Jagan religiously attended Court hearings every Friday. But then, due to the complex nature of these cases, the proceedings were delayed by filing multiple discharge petitions by various parties of these cases and pushing the court to proceed with ED cases only after the CBI cases were solved.
The scenario got entirely changed after 2019. Jagan came to power with a record majority. For about 250 Fridays as the Chief Minister Jagan did not go to the court at least for ten Fridays and kept on filing absent petitions for one reason or the other.
Even though it is a violation of the primary bail condition – cooperating with the legal process, the court never took an objection. The cases were where they were in 2014 and Opposition parties allege that Jagan struck a deal with the Narendra Modi government to slow down the cases.
Today marks the tenth anniversary of Jagan’s bail and it is the testimony of how people like Jagan play with the system and go scot-free even though there are serious allegations of usurping public money amounting to 43,000 Crore Rupees.
