TS Elections Elction Commission

In a historic move, the Election Commission of India has introduced home voting in Telangana for senior citizens and people with disabilities ahead of the November 30 elections.

A total of 1141 eligible voters in the district can now vote from home. This includes senior citizens above 80 and those with over 40 percent disability. Out of 843 senior citizens and 674 disabled persons who applied, 667 elderly and 474 disabled individuals were found eligible.

Teams with voting machines, polling officers, staff, police, and videographers will visit the eligible voters’ homes. Those not voting at home will be removed from the list, even if they go to polling stations on election day.

In addition, 13 other categories of employees, including medical, police, fire, and press personnel, can vote by post. In the district, 106 people have applied for this option.

The first person to use the home voting service was 91-year-old Annapurna Chunduri in the Khairatabad constituency.

This move sets an important precedent for future elections, emphasizing the importance of ensuring every eligible citizen can exercise their right to vote.
