Vinesh Phogat, who missed out on an Olympic medal due to unfortunate circumstances, has now emerged as an MLA in the Haryana Assembly Elections.
Just a couple of months ago, Vinesh was devastated as her confirmed silver medal was snatched from her due to being overweight by just 100 grams. In no time, she bounced back and contested the Haryana Elections from the Julana constituency, representing the Congress party.
She defeated BJP candidate Yogesh Bairagi with a majority of around 6,015 votes, securing a victory in her maiden election. The competition was tough for Vinesh, nonetheless.
During the initial rounds, Vinesh was leading, but later, Yogesh surpassed her. However, Vinesh made a strong comeback in the final rounds and secured victory in the end.
Though Vinesh secured a win, her party, Congress, appears to be on the losing side in the Haryana Assembly polls. Out of a total of 90 seats, BJP is leading in 49, while Congress is confined to 35. It is expected that the BJP will secure victory in the state and form the government for the third consecutive term.
