Pranay Reddy Vanga’s recent comments about Romanchakam and Spirit have created an unnecessary controversy.
After Romanchakam received a poor response, the producer expressed disappointment with the reviews. He felt that some reviewers were pulling down the film unnecessarily. Pranay Reddy Vanga said Romanchakam was a small film, so some people were able to hurt the film’s success. He then threw a challenge, saying that he was waiting to see what people would do when Prabhas and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit releases.
But do audiences follow different rules for small and big films?
If a small film is good, people will support it. If a big film is bad, they will reject it. In fact, big films often face tougher backlash because they come with bigger budgets, bigger stars, and bigger promises.
To be honest, using Spirit to defend Romanchakam does not make sense. If Romanchakam failed to connect with the viewers, the better approach is to understand why. Calling out reviewers or suggesting that a small film was judged unfairly will not change the audience response.
More importantly, Spirit does not need this baggage.
The Prabhas-Sandeep Reddy Vanga combination already has huge attention. If Spirit delivers, nobody will care about the reviews of Romanchakam. But creating an unnecessary debate before Spirit will not make things any better. In fact, it could put some viewers in a mindset where they are ready to attack Spirit, reasonably or unreasonably.
Why create negativity around a big film like Spirit when the stakes are much higher? Why make provocative statements suggesting that nobody can bring the film down even if they try? Such ragebait comments can create unnecessary expectations and give people another reason to closely watch and bash the film.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga has a huge responsibility with Spirit, and expectations are extremely high. The best response to every criticism will be the film itself. There is no need to challenge reviewers in advance.
Let Spirit release. Let the audience decide.
