The government of Andhra Pradesh is planning to establish a Skill University aimed at enhancing the skill levels of the youth in the state. This initiative is part of a broader focus on skill development, spearheaded by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu.
He has already conducted multiple brainstorming sessions on the subject and announced the launch of Skill Senses across the state, which will work toward improving the skill levels of the people. The proposal for setting up the Skill University has been in the works for some time, with the Chief Minister prioritizing it early in his tenure.
During a recent Gram Sabha in Mysuravaripalli, Kadapa district, the issue was brought to the attention of the Deputy Chief Minister, Pawan Kalyan, who highlighted the importance of such an institution. Following this, Chandrababu Naidu discussed the necessity of the university with officials, taking into account the current situation in the state.
The initiative also includes the first-ever skill census in India, targeting around 3.5 crore people between the ages of 15 to 59. This census aims to gather data on the skills and interests of the youth, which will then inform efforts to improve their employment opportunities. The collected data will be crucial in tailoring skill development programs to meet the specific needs of the population.
The proposed Skill University will serve as the central hub for these training programs, offering certifications that will give recipients an advantage in job selection processes. The university is expected to become a model for similar institutions across the country.
The central government has already allocated substantial funds to states for skill training, which will support the establishment and operation of this new university.
