What Will CBN Do About YSRCP’s Encroachments?

During YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tenure as Chief Minister, land grabs occurred through both official and unauthorized means. Official acquisitions involved the state government issuing Government Orders (GOs) to allocate land for YSRCP offices, while unauthorized land grabs were carried out by YSRCP leaders, encompassing thousands of acres across the state.

These activities included the illegal seizure of hills, mounds, ponds, and canals for sand, mud, gravel, and mining. The Jagan government, overconfident in its prospects of re-election, allocated a total of 42.44 acres for YSRCP offices in 26 districts, typically one to two acres per district.

However, the construction of these offices often lacked proper permissions, as evidenced by the Prakasam district office, which was built without authorization. The land was leased for 33 years under the guise of “political party achievement.”

The recent demolition of the YSRCP office in Tadepalli has highlighted the extent of these land grabs and has sparked controversy. The current administration under Chandrababu Naidu faces a critical decision on how to address these encroachments.

If the government shows leniency, it risks signaling that corruption and irregularities can occur without consequences, potentially leading to widespread dissatisfaction among the public.

The issue of YSRCP’s land encroachments is set to be a topic of discussion in the first cabinet meeting of the new government. The outcome of these deliberations will likely impact public perception and the government’s credibility in handling corruption and land allocation abuses.
