There is currently suspense over who will attend the assembly meetings as the MLA from the Kothagudem constituency. In the 2018 elections, Vanama Venkateswara Rao won as the Congress candidate from Kothagudem against his nearest rival, Jalagam Venkatrav.
However, Jalagam Venkatrao filed a case in the High Court, alleging that Vanama Venkateswara Rao had provided false information in the affidavit submitted during the election.
After investigation, the court ruled that Vanama’s election as MLA was invalid, and his closest rival, Jalagam Venkatrao, who contested from TRS, is eligible to be recognized as an MLA.
Jalagam Venkatrao delivered the High Court’s verdict documents to the Assembly Secretary, State Chief Election Commission, and the Speaker of the Assembly, demanding recognition as an MLA as per the court order. However, Jalagam stated that he has not received any communication from the Assembly Speaker thus far.
Meanwhile, Vanama filed a bribery petition in the High Court challenging the judgment and requested a month’s stay on the verdict. The High Court dismissed Vanama’s petition, and it is now reported that he has filed a petition in the Supreme Court.
The situation has created excitement over who will represent Kothagudem in the assembly meetings starting from today. According to reliable sources, BRS will not give a ticket to Vanama this time. Apart from the fake election affidavit issue, there were also sexual harassment allegations against Vanama’s son. These two reasons might lead to Vanama not getting the Kothagudem BRS ticket.
