Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed his first public meeting in Hyderabad after the notification came for Telangana Assembly Elections. The Prime Minister’s speech is more about equating Congress and BRS to corruption and family politics.
He also stressed that both parties are anti-OBC and would never allow anyone apart from their families to become the Chief Minister. He asked people to vote for NDA to have a BC Chief Minister.
The BC Chief Minister plank is the biggest electoral slogan for BJP in this election and this meeting of the Prime Minister itself is named ‘BC Atma Gourva Sabha’.
But then, the question is if the voters will buy the BC CM plank of the BJP.
Just before the elections, the BJP high command removed Bandi Sanjay, a BC leader from the post of the BJP State President and replaced him by Kishan Reddy, an Upper Caste leader. This would definitely play on the minds of the voters when they make their choice.
Also, there is a popular opinion that the BJP dragged itself out of this election to ensure that Congress does not come to power. It is evident when the party’s high command slowed down the momentum by changing Bandi Sanjay. It will be a very wrong signal to the BCs if they think the BJP is coming up with ‘BC CM’ in a lost case.
Historically, Telangana people did not buy this caste CM cards. Previously, Chandrababu Naidu announced BC CM by making R Krishnaiah as the face of the 2014 elections but that did not work with the voters.
