Among the many scams linked to the YSR Congress regime, the liquor scam investigation remains very active. The agency has already filed two charge sheets, and it may only be a matter of time before Jagan’s name is added as an accused in the case.
Jagan Mohan Reddy has been visiting several YSR Congress leaders who are in jail for different cases. But for reasons unknown, he has not yet met anyone accused in the liquor scam despite their continued imprisonment.
In Vijayawada District Jail, senior Chittoor leader Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy has been held in connection with this case. Almost two months have passed since his arrest, yet Jagan has not made the effort to meet him.
Along with Chevireddy, some bureaucrats close to Jagan are also in jail. YS Bharathi’s relative Raj Kasireddy, alleged to be a mastermind in the scam, was arrested much earlier and remains lodged there as well.
Meanwhile, Rajampet MP Mithun Reddy has been kept in Rajahmundry Central Jail after his recent arrest in the same scam. It has only been about two weeks since his detention, yet YSR Congress has announced Jagan’s visit to him on the 25th of this month.
If Jagan truly wished to meet him, he could have done so without delay. The advance notice raises doubts, with many suggesting that he wants enough time for party leaders in East and West Godavari to mobilise crowds for the visit.
The decision also raises another question. Several loyalists were arrested before Mithun Reddy, making him the last to be taken into custody. So why is Jagan prioritising him over the others?
Leaving aside the bureaucrats, senior leader Chevireddy was arrested much earlier and is jailed much closer to Tadepalli than Mithun Reddy. Despite this, Jagan has not met him, which has left the leader and his followers feeling deeply insulted.
