Reports are emerging that Senior leader Rayapati Samba Siva Rao is contemplating joining YSR Congress after TDP admitted his arch-rival Kanna Lakshminarayana and denied Sattenapalli ticket to his son, Rayapati Ranga Rao.
Buzz is that Rayapati initiated talks through Dokka Manikya Varaprasad who is close aide and currently the President of YSR Congress in Guntur district. Rayapati Ranga Rao wants to contest on Kanna in Sattenapalli, they say.
If true, this can be a wrong choice by the former MP. 2024 elections are more about Chandrababu Naidu Vs Jagan Mohan Reddy. This calculation further boils down to the Amaravati issue in the Guntur district.
Personal rivalry has no space here in this scenario. Also, a political novice like Ranga Rao taking on a heavyweight like Kanna is not easy. If Rayapati chose to contest on the YSR Congress ticket, he may end up getting disappointed.
Moreover, YSR Congress often used to make huge corruption allegations about Rayapati’s company which is the initial concessionaire of the Polavaram project. We will have to see how the party defends admitting the same Rayapati now.
It is interesting to note YSR Congress has a sitting MLA in Ambati Rambabu from Sattenapalli who is also a minister now.
