YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, has his own approach to running a political party. His leadership style is centred on giving clear directions, with the party expected to follow them without much room for second opinions.
This approach is once again visible as Jagan has asked his YCP groups to prepare for the upcoming local body elections in Andhra Pradesh.
Jagan has reportedly made it clear that YCP should field candidates for every local body seat possible. He has also instructed that the concerned district leader or MLA will be held responsible if any local body seat goes uncontested without a YCP candidate.
In this context, a BC leaders’ meeting was held in Tadepalli today at the grassroots level. This will be followed by a more significant meeting tomorrow, when Jagan is expected to meet YCP leaders and discuss the strategy for the local body elections.
However, an interesting point is Jagan’s limited travel across Andhra Pradesh. Apart from Tadepalli, he has rarely stepped out of what critics describe as his comfort zone.
At a time when YCP is facing a major political challenge, Jagan continues to operate largely from Bengaluru and Tadepalli. So far, the movement has mostly been one way, with party leaders and supporters travelling to Tadepalli to meet him.
There is growing criticism within political circles over this approach. Critics argue that a party leader needs to travel across the state and directly engage with the cadre, particularly when the party is preparing for crucial local body elections.
This approach has already cost YCP politically, according to its critics. However, Jagan’s latest activities suggest that he continues to follow the same style of functioning.
