The Indian political system is quickly changing as the landscape is heavily tilting towards the Hindu discourse. This wave, which was originally brought about by the BJP is now catching up across the country.
In fact, this proposition has reached the farmer chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan, who has made a public appearance with a sindoor bottu on his forehead.
While Jagan might have a secular image and never really restrict him to either Christianity or Hindu beliefs, it’s a bit rare to see him in a traditional Hindu bottu.
In the recent past, there have been several campaigns run against Jagan in the name of religion and communal politics. Ever since then he had been making increased appearances at Hindu temples.
Now it is the visible aspect of Jagan, making a public appearance today with a bright sindoor bottu on the forehead. Many people are wondering, if this is a strong statement from Jagan about his affiliation with the Hindu community.
Politics can make people do interesting things and the same can be understood from the case of Jagan now perhaps. But at the end of the day, secularism is the way forward in a large democratic country like India and Jagan appears to have understood the same.
