YS Sharmila, the chief of the YSRTP (Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party) and the daughter of the late former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, has achieved a notable recognition. Her “Praja Prasthanam Padayatra” has earned her a place in the Indian Book of Records. Sharmila’s padayatra involved covering a distance of 3800 kilometers in the state of Telangana, making her the first woman to have walked this extensive distance.
Representatives from the Indian Book of Records congratulated Sharmila on this achievement and presented her with an award. The padayatra commenced on October 20, 2021, from Chevella, the same location where her father had initiated his YSR Padayatra years earlier. The journey spanned approximately a year and a half, during which Sharmila encountered various challenges.
Despite these obstacles, she continued her padayatra with determination. Throughout the march, Sharmila also criticized the Telangana government’s policies. During the padayatra, tensions escalated in Narsampet due to Sharmila’s comments, resulting in her arrest by the police. The march was temporarily halted, but Sharmila’s team sought legal permission to continue, which was eventually granted by the court.
It’s worth noting that Sharmila had also undertaken a padayatra in Andhra Pradesh. However, her remarkable achievement of covering a distance of 3800 kilometers in Telangana has earned her a place in the Indian Book of Records.
