The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has not-so-shockingly fielded candidates with criminal backgrounds in the upcoming elections. Candidates with a criminal background seem to be on their priority list.
Starting with Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy himself faces multiple serious charges, including 11 cases investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and 9 cases by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Despite being the prime accused in these cases, he continues to contest elections and is currently out on bail.
The party’s list includes individuals accused of murder, attempted murder, red sandalwood smuggling, and land grabbing.
For instance, Vijayananda Reddy, a candidate from Chittoor, has faced charges related to red sandalwood transportation, leading to his imprisonment under the Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act (PD Act).
Similarly, Ketireddy Peddareddy, Ketireddy Venkatramireddy, and Topudurthi Prakash Reddy, candidates from different constituencies, have cases of attempted murder against them. Furthermore, MVV Satyanarayana, the sitting MP from Visakha, is implicated in a land-grabbing case.
The trend extends to MPs and Ministers associated with the party. Vijayasai Reddy, a candidate for Nellore MP, faces 11 CBI and 9 ED cases alongside CM Jagan.
Even Minister Jogi Ramesh, who previously attacked the Opposition Leader’s house, has been rewarded with a candidacy.
