NayanataraWhat Is the Film About?
A kid falls into an empty bore well that is dug out in a field. How is she rescued by an IAS officer Madhuvarshini (Nayanthara) and what happens in the process of retrieving, bureaucratically, the odds she faces from fellow officers and the psychological struggle of people and parent on the spot is what the film is all about?

How Is Nayantara’s Performance?
Nayanthara is terrific as the IAS officer. She makes us believe in the motivations and intentions of the character with her stoic portrayal. It is a perfect role for her for the stature she enjoys. The scenes where she interacts with government officials stand out with an authoritative tone whereas in the scenes with the ordinary people she shows a compassionate side. Nayanthara brings out the variations subtly without making it look like she is acting.

Director Gopi NainarDirection by Gopi Nainar?
Direction by Gopi Nainar is tout and gripping. And that is immediate thought that comes to our mind once the screening is over. The director right from the first frame sticks to the story without any deviations. Every scene is related to the overall narrative without any wastage.

The movie begins slowly highlighting the everyday life of rural people, their issues and what is affecting them. Then we get straight into the crux of the story of a rescue operation of a child that fell in an unmanned bore. What happens afterwards is shown systematically in a realistic way without getting too overboard.

Both the halves are balanced and in the end, carry the right emotion. The character of IAS officer is welletched, and core issue highlights all the problems well. The conversation with government officials further makes the point without interfering with the narrative.

Overall, Karthvyam is a solid drama that makes us look at our system and what it means to us. There is a hammer like an impact at times, but the human emotions and the drama surrounding it makes the message palpable without being too overbearing. Give the movie try; it won’t disappoint.

Sunu LakshmiSanu Lakshmi and Others?
The character artists are well cast. They are perfect for the set up they have been chosen for. Ramachandra Durairaj and Sanu Lakshmi stand out as the parents throughout. They both share raw, rustic chemistry as a husband and wife and also as parents. Kitty is perfect in his role asking the critical questions and showing the other face of the democracy and power. Vela Ramamoorthy stands out in the few scenes.

Music Director GhibranMusic and Other Departments?
There are no songs, but the background score by Ghibran is a winner. The cinematography and editing are slick for a small budget movie. The dialogues are apt, even though it is dubbed.
