Anand Deverakonda - Pushpaka Vimanam Movie ReviewWhat Is the Film About?
Sundar (Anand Deverakonda) is a typically middle-class guy who is working as a government teacher. He is married to Meenakshi and is looking forward to the honeymoon.

However, a few days later, Meenakshi goes missing. Sundar has to now convince the entire world that everything is alright. How he does that and what happened to his wife is the movie’s basic plot?

Anand Deverakonda knows very his strengths and weakness. At least that’s the impression he gives with the kind of subjects he is picking. They are rooted and realistic dramas far from the ‘starry’ fares we usually see. The subjects help dwarf his shortcomings majorly and present him as one of the characters in a story.

Pushpaka Vimanam is no different in the above regard concerning Anand Deverakonda. He suits the part of a teacher who is newlywed and has no big goals in life. However, when the content is not strong, the weaknesses are exposed, which happens with Pushpaka Vimanam. It is a simple slice of life movie with a thriller element. Anand Devarakonda stands out with his severe lack of personality in the film that is weak writing-wise. When the burden falls on him to carry a subject, he fails to do so. It shows how dependent he is on the subject and not the other way around.

Director DamodarAnalysis
A newcomer Damodara helms Pushpaka Vimanam. It is a simple plot with one exciting hook. What happened to the wife of a newlywed guy? Did she elope with someone, or was she killed?

While Pushpaka Vimanam is not similar in any way content-wise, it shares similarities in spirit with the first production of Vijay Deverakonda, Meeku Mathrame Chepta. The story is simple, but it comes with a curious hook. The narrative is wafer-thin, relying on the small moments and conversations between different characters in crazy situations.

The entire first half of Pushpaka Vimanam relies on the central protagonist interaction with various characters in the world he inhabits. So, there are the people at the school, the apartments and so on, and Anand Deverakonda has to act and make everything look normal with them.

The setup has scope for a lot of fun, but that doesn’t happen due to weak writing. The aim to bring realism plays spoilsport here as it only increases further pressure on it. To generate fun from day-to-day situations require extraordinary writing and chemistry between various actors. None of it is seen in Pushpaka Vimanam, which makes the proceedings ordinary.

It is only towards the interval mark when the thriller element is brought into the narrative, there is some hope. After all, it is what got the audience into cinemas in the first place.

Post the intermission, things take a dramatic turn, which is partly predictable given the grave situation. However, it is the way the pace also changes that causes the trouble. It turns dreary in the second half. One gets the feeling that the direction has an impression that slowing the pace enhances the emotions.

The screenplay is fine on paper, but it doesn’t translate well onto the screen. The core reason for the whole thing to take place lacks the necessary impact. It is a relatable point, but it isn’t presented engagingly. The build is partly the reason, whereas the execution is the other.

Once the reason is out, the rest of the narrative is about the ‘who’ of the whole thing. It requires gripping proceedings to hold the interest at this point and time, but that is again sorely missing. The undercurrent emotional drama running in parallel doesn’t go well with the ‘thrill’ aspect, which is abruptly force-fitted into the narrative to lead to the end.

When the actual moment arrives, it again doesn’t invoke the expected reaction. One has practically given up on the movie before it comes, which is why it just passes by without any real impact whatsoever.

Overall, Pushpaka Vimanam has a thin but intriguing plot. However, it falls flat in the execution. A dull and dragging second half follows an ordinary first one which has occasional laughs here and there. It makes Pushpaka Vimanam an uncomfortable watch in the cinemas. Give it a try if you want to see something rooted. Otherwise, stay away.

Geetha saini - Pushpaka Vimanam Movie ReviewGeetha & Others?
Geeth Saini and Saanve Megghna are the female leads in the movie. The former plays Meenakshi, the wife character on whom the plot rests. Apart from that key aspect, there is nothing impressive from Geeth. She is alright at best but fails to leave an impact in critical moments. Saanve Megghana, on the other hand, has a smaller but livelier part. She brings additional charm to the proceedings with her presence and timing in small moments.

Sunil playing a critical supporting role is alright. It is a functionary part that helps in the advancement of the story but has nothing memorable otherwise. The writing and characterisation need to be blamed as such parts in the past have been well-liked. Naresh is okay, whereas Harsha Vardhan felt underutilised for the most part. The rest of the cast is alright in their roles, but they lack the meat.

Music Director Ram MiriyalaMusic and Other Departments?
Multiple composers are behind the songs in the movie. A couple of them are alright to listen to and are picturised decently. The background score by Mark K Robin is impressive in parts. He helps in providing the much-needed energy for the proceedings with his work. The cinematography by Hestin Jose Joseph is okay. The editing by Raviteja Girijala could have been better. The writing is below par.

Weak Conflict

Dragged Second Half

Naresh - Pushpaka Vimanam Movie ReviewAlternative Take
Pushpaka Vimanam should have been made as a quirky entertainer cum thriller. The characters lack the spark here, and the weak writing further makes the whole thing look ordinary. Placement of red herrings from an early stage is also necessary.

It means an overhaul entirely, along with a change in tone. It would bring consistency to the whole narrative, which looks like two separate genres, in the current form, with an abrupt jump of the shark moment in the second half.

Vijay Deverakonda is back with a new film in the capacity of a producer. Pushpaka Vimanam is the second outing from his King Of The Hill production house, featuring his brother Anand Deverakonda in the lead.

Ever since the promotions of Pushpa Vimanam commenced, it has managed to generate curiosity among the audience. The theatrical trailer took it to the next level. The hook line of the missing wife right after the marriage has caught everyone’s attention.

What adds to the general awareness of Pushpaka Vimanam is none other than Anand Deverakonda himself. His debut Dorasani and then the OTT film Middle Class Melodies has given a niche appeal to him. Pushpaka Vimanam carries that momentum.

A newcomer, Damodara, directs Pushpaka Vimanam. Geeth Saini and Saanve Megghana are playing the female leads. Sunil, who has recently switched to playing intriguing supporting parts, plays a cop here. Apart from them, there is a host of well-known faces like Naresh, Harsha Vardhan etc.

A theatrical success would boost Anand Deverakonda repute as a bankable star at the box office, even if it is for niche content-oriented movies. It will be the same for Vijay Deverakonda as his first production didn’t set the box office bells ringing.
