Alcohol sales in Telangana during the Dasara festive season were adversely affected by the Election Code. Typically, alcohol sales in the state surge significantly each year, but this time, they fell short of expectations. Nevertheless, the ongoing peak election season has brought substantial profits to wine shops and boosted the revenue of the Excise department.
During the election season, there is a notable increase in alcohol distribution and consumption. Many political leaders have already started stockpiling alcohol bottles over the past month, although there was a decline in sales during the Dasara festive season.
In 2022, approximately 1.6 lakh cases of liquor were sold, while in 2023, this figure increased to 1.8 lakh cases, reflecting a modest growth of just 20,000 cases. This underscores the impact of the Election Code on alcohol sales.
