NASA & ISRO to launch NISAR

NASA and ISRO are collaborating on the NISAR mission, a joint effort to map Earth’s land and ice-covered surfaces every 12 days. The mission, with a three-year duration and a $1.5 billion budget, recently completed key tests, including thermal vacuum testing.

NISAR, a Low Earth Orbit observatory, is set to launch in the first quarter of 2024 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre. The mission will be crucial for global mapping and monitoring, utilizing synthetic aperture radar technology.

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and ISRO’s U R Rao Satellite Centre are contributing various components and expertise to the mission.
