A curious case of “reverse dowry” is gaining traction online, according to which Jaipur court has allegedly directed Pratap Nagar police to register a case against a woman Air Force officer and her parents for allegedly demanding Rs 5 crore and a luxury car as dowry from her husband.
Men’s right activists like @ShoneeKapoor on X are sharing the tragic story which has led to this curious case of dowry coming into the light.
The initial order was passed following a complaint filed by a Merchant Navy professional residing in Jagatpura. According to the complainant’s lawyer, Advocate Sandesh Khandelwal, the couple got married on February 10, 2022.
The woman officer, a senior member of the Indian Air Force, was previously widowed in 2014 when her first husband, also an Air Force officer, died in a plane crash.
Post-marriage, the husband claims that his wife’s behaviour changed significantly, particularly during her posting in Chennai. He alleges she became increasingly hostile.
After her transfer to Jaipur, her family reportedly began pressuring him to purchase a luxury car, justifying the demand by pointing to her senior rank in the Air Force.
The couple had a child on June 26, 2023. However, they are now living separately by mutual consent. The complaint further states that on March 19, 2025, the woman and her father demanded Rs 5 crore and a BMW car. They allegedly threatened to prevent the complainant from meeting his son if their demands were not fulfilled.
Presiding Officer Khetpal Singh Charan has ordered the registration of a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. This section stipulates that anyone demanding dowry can face imprisonment from six months to two years and a fine up to Rs 10,000.
The court has also asked the police to submit a detailed investigation report on the matter. Meanwhile the people on internet are sharing the case on Twitter.
