Amazon To Lay Off 1800 Engineers Among 14,000

Amazon layoffs impact on engineers

Even as Amazon founder Jeff Bezos talks about an employee’s ability to invent and create, the tech giant continues large-scale layoffs across multiple divisions.

Amazon has already announced that 14,000 employees will be removed. Layoffs are taking place in cloud services, retail, advertising, grocery and other departments. International media now reports that engineers are also on the list.

About 1800 engineers will be removed from California, New Jersey, New York and Washington. A total of 4700 employees are set to be laid off in these states, and engineers make up nearly 40 percent of this count.

Reports say that once Amazon provides clarity on layoffs in other states, the final number of engineers losing their jobs will become clearer. The situation appears to be unfolding in phases.

Amazon announced the layoffs in October, saying it plans to invest more in artificial intelligence. The company stated that the decisions are based on customer interests and future needs.

They said the goal is to cut bureaucracy, remove unnecessary layers and make better use of resources. Calling this the AI era, Amazon justified its restructuring and job cuts.
