Backlash At Canada PM’s Meet-Up With Diljit Dosanjh

Should politics and entertainment collide the way it did in the current interaction between Justin Trudeau and Diljit Dosanjh? The Canadian prime minister met Diljit in his sold out show at Rogers Centre in Canada and both Diljit and Trudeau shared it on their social media, Diljit putting a caption “Diversity is Canada’s Strength”. Fans and followers of both the personalities had a mixed response and some harsh backlash.

While many Canadians shunned their prime minister for meeting an artist who allegedly supported the Khalistani cause, the fans of Dosanjh didn’t like him meeting Trudeau over the hostility faced by Indians especially Punjabis in Canada. Some called it just a hypocritical political campaign by Trudeau to gain votes from the Punjabi citizens.

But the Indian masses cannot forget Trudeau’s allegations on Indian agents behind the killing of Khalistani Leader in Canada and the later expulsion of Indian Diplomats. He has never presented any evidence for these claims and this severed the ties between the countries. India too suspended new visas for Canadians and called Trudeau’s claims as ‘absurd’. Regardless, Diljit keeps selling stadiums after stadiums in Canada with his Dil-Luminati Tour as his popularity keeps on becoming unstoppable. He was recently seen at the Jimmy Fallon Show and represented himself in the traditional Punjabi attire and made all Indians proud.

We have more Punjabi and Sikh Members of Parliament than India does, despite India having 37 million more Punjabis than Canada does – that seems odd to me.
