The summer has started and for many, summer time is beer time. But this summer, the costs of beer are likely to go up and there may be shortage in beer bottles.
Of course, the primary reason is the situation in W Asia. Gas shortage has increased glass bottle manufacturing costs. Aluminum cans import is less due to consignment delays.
Already, the glass bottle costs have increased by 20%. Meanwhile, paper carton rates have doubled. The brewers are asking for 15-20% hike from the states. In fact, some bottle manufacturers have slashed production by 40%.
According to industry insiders, there could be shortages in states that don’t agree for hike in prices.
Meanwhile, peak summer has already started in many states and the brewers are facing a packaging and supply chain crisis at a wrong time.
So if you love your beer gardens, you might have to settle for a drink or two, this summer.
