Brutal Zomato Layoffs

Indian food delivery startup Zomato has been facing criticism for an alleged mass firing of more than 600 employees from the Customer Support team over absurd reasons.

Two of the ex-employees took to Reddit to tell their side of the story. In a detailed Reddit post, one explained how despite achieving all the allotted targets within the expected time, the company mercilessly fired them instead of giving an appraisal.

Dummy explanations like ‘being late by an average of 28 minutes in a month’ were given to somehow justify the mass layoffs on the part of the company.

This is not something new seen with Indian companies operating in the tech space. Nowadays the value of an employee has become nothing more than that of a disposable commodity.

Companies exploit employees to their fullest with false promises of career growth and then brutally let go of them without even thinking twice about their families back home.

Workers’ rights have become a joke for these so-called startups, who think they can keep using dirty tricks to get the max out of their ‘disposable workers’.

There is an immediate need for the authorities to put a foot down and slap these companies with a firm warning to get their act together and at least acknowledge the human factor inside their employees.




If not, then incidents like this will only become more rampant, with business ethics becoming a joke of the past.
