An incident is getting a lot of traction online about a clash between two groups of students over cheating in a matriculation exam hall in Sasaram, Bihar. The said clash soon turned violent, leading to the death of a 10th-standard student.
Two others were injured in the horrific gunfight, with one sustaining a bullet wound to the leg and another to the back. The injured were taken to a hospital, where one of them succumbed to injuries.
Following the incident, villagers and the deceased student’s family attempted to block the highway in protest. However, authorities assured them of action, after which they proceeded with the final rites.
The Bihar School Examination Board’s (BSEB) class 10 exams started on February 17 and will continue until February 25. The first shift runs from 9:30 am to 12:45 pm, while the second shift is from 2 pm to 5:15 pm.
Strict entry rules are in place, allowing students inside only until 9 am for the morning shift and 1:30 pm for the afternoon shift.
Meanwhile, CBSE board exams for Classes 10 and 12 began on February 15. According to CBSE Examination Controller Dr.
Sanyam Bhardwaj, over 23.86 lakh students appeared for the Class 10 exam at 7,780 centers, while around 23,000 students took the Class 12 exam at 995 centers.
The shooting has brought the question of safety of students during exams under scrutiny. Authorities are investigating the incident to identify those responsible.
