Google has laid off hundreds of employees in Android and Pixel departments. Once again, the tech giant has taken the step laying off employees from its platform, design units.
The axe has fallen on employees in Android software, Pixel phones and Chrome browser. The news has been put out by a media outfit, The Information, based on the sources in the organisation.
However, there is no clarity on the exact number as yet. It is known that in a major rehaul of the company, it has been laying off employees for the past two years.
Last year, it laid off 10% of managers, vice presidents and directors. In February this year, it laid off people from HR and Cloud departments.
The decision is based on cost cutting in the organisation. It’s not just Google. Layoffs have become common in many organisations, be it due to bad performance or cost cutting.
However, layoffs in tech giants usually leads to layoffs in mid and small-sized organisations.
