A case from Jind district in Haryana has sparked intense debate on social media over gender bias and parental responsibility. The incident has triggered strong reactions, with many calling it a reflection of India’s deep rooted preference for sons.
A 40-year-old woman from the Uchana area reportedly gave birth to her 11th child, a boy, after having 10 daughters. The family has since become a symbol of how son preference continues to shape personal and social decisions.
The issue gained traction after an X post by Dr Ranjan (@AAPforNewIndia) suggested the government should take custody of all 11 children. He claimed the parents were not fit to raise them, a remark that sharply divided online opinion.
Reports confirm the delivery was normal and both the mother and newborn are healthy. However, public anger has focused on the mindset behind having 11 children in the pursuit of a male heir or waris.
One detail that drew widespread attention was that the father reportedly could not recall the names of all 10 daughters when questioned. Many viewed this as evidence of unequal care and emotional neglect within the household.
While several users criticised the couple as irresponsible, others cautioned against extreme reactions. They argued that patriarchy, poor awareness, and weak family planning outreach play a larger role in allowing such situations to persist.
