The BJP’s State Executive meeting in Rajahmundry comes at an interesting time in Andhra Pradesh politics. The party focused on the NDA government’s development agenda and the “double-engine government” message.
But there is a bigger question. Is the BJP looking for a bigger role in AP politics?
The BJP is the smallest of the three NDA partners in terms of its own political base. The 2024 victory was mainly driven by the TDP-Jana Sena alliance, with the BJP adding strength to the NDA.
Now, the BJP appears focused on building its own organisation and cadre in the state.
The local-body elections could be the first test. These polls depend heavily on local leaders, booth-level networks and ground support.
This could make seat-sharing within the NDA interesting.
TDP remains the biggest force in the alliance. Jana Sena has also grown stronger after winning all 21 Assembly seats it contested in 2024. The BJP won eight seats, but its grassroots network is still smaller.
So, the big question is simple: Will the BJP ask for seats based on its ground strength, or seek a bigger share because it is part of the NDA?
