Hyd Doctor 48 Lakhs Loss

Scams through the internet are on the rise and it seems that even doctors are not immune to this. A 34-year-old doctor working in Hyderabad got scammed for 48 lakh rupees in a parcel scam, said Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police.

She received a call from the fraudsters claiming that they were from FedX courier services. They painted a situation where she was connected with a courier parcel that was being transported from Malaysia to Delhi containing drugs. They told her that the information came from the Delhi police and that everything would be reported to the higher authorities.

She spoke with a “CBI constable” on a video call. She was provided with an “arrest warrant” through WhatsApp. The entire scam was precisely planned and the fact that she was unaware of the constitutional technicalities was taken advantage of.

This incident shows that regardless of getting an education in the general sense, internet literacy and constitutional awareness of rights are essential for the common public. The scammers extracted all her private details from her including the details of her family, spouse, and banking credentials.

She was asked to pay a certain amount for ‘fund legislation’, which would be refunded once the case was done but when she revealed that her bank account only had 3000 rupees, they brainwashed her into breaking her fixed deposit accounts worth 25 lakhs each. They were able to extract 48 lakh rupees from her like this.
This entire scenario is extremely devastating and officials asked the common public to report such things on the Cyber Crime Helpline number- 1930 or by visiting cybercrime.gov.in.
