Food safety officials have stepped up inspections across Hyderabad, and seven popular restaurants have now come under the scanner. The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) conducted raids recently and found several violations involving hygiene, food storage, expired items, labelling and pest control.
Six enforcement teams, along with police personnel, inspected Chutneys, Spice 6 and Ohris in Banjara Hills, The Spicy Venue in Jubilee Hills, 4 Seasons Multi-Cuisine Restaurant and Shah Ghouse in Tolichowki, and Pista House in Gachibowli. Officials reported poor hygiene in some outlets, expired food products, improper handling and storage, spoiled vegetables, violations of food labelling and display rules, and pest infestation.
Pista House faced specific action over alleged misbranding in its store room. Officials seized 15 kg of cashews, 24 kg of dry noodles and 5 kg of potato chips, reportedly worth around Rs. 17,500. Samples of Masqati ghee and Vangal paneer were also collected for laboratory testing.
Overall, TG SAFE collected 11 food samples from the seven restaurants on suspicion of adulteration. Four improvement notices and three show-cause notices have been issued. The samples have been sent for testing, and further action will depend on the laboratory results and the responses from the concerned establishments.
The raids are part of the ongoing food safety enforcement drive in Hyderabad. The regulator has warned restaurants to maintain proper hygiene, follow safe food handling and storage practices, ensure correct labelling and display, and keep pest control measures in place. Failure to address the violations could lead to further action under the relevant food safety laws.
The latest inspections also come shortly after TG SAFE cancelled the licence of a sweet shop following violations. The continued action sends a clear message to Hyderabad’s restaurants and food businesses: popular name or not, food safety violations will not be ignored.
