Hyderabad is known to have the best cuisine in South India. It is next to none in all of India either when it comes to non-vegetarian delicacies. However, the brand image of Hyderabad’s food space has been taking a beating of late and here’s why.
Two months ago, the famous Alpha Hotel in Secunderabad was briefly closed by GHMC after a man fell ill after having Mutton Kheema Roti here. Recently, the famous Bawarchi Hotel at RTC X Roads made the wrong headlines after a consumer complained that he found a lizard in a biryani package from the hotel.
And now, a hotel in Gachibowli has messed up a vegetarian dish as they served Dal Makhani with a cockroach in it to a customer. He then took the issue to the GHMC authorities.
Amidst the increasing cases of food poisoning and contamination, there is increased pressure on GHMC Food Regulatory department to take string actions against such cases. The issue here is that these mishaps are not happening with small-time eateries but highly reputed and established hotels in the city. Needless to say, this is a traumatic experience for the victims.
GHMC has commissioned 23 food inspectors for the job and there could be more preventive measures in the due course. But for now, the recent incidents have tarnished Hyderabad cuisine’s image.
