A Hyderabad man lost Rs 1.97 lakh in a fake online grocery scam. Online shopping makes life easier, but it also brings serious risks. One small mistake can empty your bank account before you even realise it.
A 36-year-old resident of Yousufguda thought he was ordering groceries from the official Big Basket website. But the site was fake. After placing the order, he received a call from someone posing as customer support. The caller said there was a payment issue and told him to download an app to fix it.
Moments after installing it, Rs 1.97 lakh vanished from his bank account. The scammers used the app to take control of his phone and access his OTPs.
Police have urged you to stay alert while shopping online. Never download unknown apps or share personal details. Always check if a website is genuine before making any payment. A single careless click can cost you dearly.
