Big Bomb on Taxpayers! No Aadhaar, No PAN; New Rule

Aadhaar PAN Link Mandatory

Digital identity is changing how citizens interact with government services in India.

Over the last decade, Aadhaar has become the backbone of many aspects of our daily lives, from banking to welfare benefits.

Now it’s going to get even more central, as the government is making Aadhaar mandatory for getting a new PAN card from July 1, 2025.

This new rule announced by the Central Board of Direct Taxes means that anyone applying for a PAN card after this date will have to have a valid Aadhaar number for verification.

Earlier, you could use multiple documents like birth certificate or other ID proofs to apply for a PAN card.

The shift to Aadhaar-only verification is part of a broader push to digitalise tax administration and ensure every PAN card is uniquely linked to its owner.

Authorities believe this will help prevent tax evasion, curb creation of fake or duplicate PAN cards and streamline the application process through biometric authentication.

While this will increase accountability and compliance in tax filing, it also puts the onus on citizens to get and maintain an Aadhaar card for all financial transactions.

For existing PAN holders, the deadline to link with Aadhaar is December 31, 2025, after which unlinked PANs will become inoperative.

This is a big step towards a fully digital tax regime in India.
